Tuesday, June 7, debates are held with a view to a vote organized on Wednesday, June 8 at the European Parliament, in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin). Objective ? Achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Explanations.
No longer a petrol car, no longer a diesel car made in Europe within 12 years. This is one of the objectives of the debates and the vote which are being held on Tuesday 7 and Wednesday 8 June at the European Parliament, in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin). But the end of thermal vehicles in the European Union was anticipated by several manufacturers. Thus, Alpine, Lotus and Jaguar promise 100% electric by 2025. Ford, Renault and Volvo have planned to be all electric by 2030.
But this conversion could cause major problems in employment in France, especially among automotive suppliers. “Companies which manufacture in particular parts for heat engines [pourraient être impactées]. […] [Il y a aussi] many mechanic jobs that will disappear because an electric car requires much less maintenance”, explains Flavien Neuvy, economist, director of the Cetelem Observatory. Another problem: the lack of infrastructure. France is behind in the construction of electrical terminals.
