After the summer, it is the emptying period for the municipal swimming pools. A questionable situation in the midst of a drought. Some cities reuse it, while elected officials ask for the postponement of these emptyings to avoid wasting millions of liters.
Every day in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), 40,000 liters of water are needed to clean the streets. While drought and lack of water have marked the past few weeks, the municipality has decided to take this resource from the pool that needed to be emptied. “We are going to recover the 6,100 cubic meters of this swimming pool which normally had to be emptied as it is every year for the public space“, announces François Chollet, Toulouse Métropole vice-president for ecological transition. Result: six million liters of water recovered.
A method on which Châtellerault (Vienne) is one step ahead, having implemented it since 2006. But these two cities serve as exceptions. In Antibes (Alpes-Maritimes), for example, major cleaning has already begun, without recycling. A situation that questions in a region particularly affected by the restrictions. Elected officials have asked that this emptying be postponed, but with the summer attendance, it seems necessary for health issues, before the return of schoolchildren. Direction the sewers for these eight million liters of water.
