the employers propose 10.5% wage increase on average but the unions denounce imbalances

Employer organizations in the hotel and catering industry (GNC, GNI, SNRTC, UMIH) say they have proposed a new common salary scale, Thursday, November 18, with an average increase of 10.5%, during negotiations with all the unions in the branch.

“They just come with a grid that doesn’t meet expectations”, reacted to AFP Nabil Azzouz (FO, third union in the branch), once the meeting was over. “The mass of employees of the first levels, which concerns between 60 and 80% of the personnel, will benefit from only 3 to 4% of increase. This does not even catch up with inflation. In addition, it is this population which leaves en masse and that we try to attract “, he stressed. On the other hand, “There is a 20% increase planned for levels 5, that is to say the bosses. You have to be rational, this orientation is worrying”, added the trade unionist.

“It was more of a meeting than a negotiation”, added Arnaud Chemain, (CGT, first union). “The CGT and the CFDT [deuxième syndicat] made counter-proposals and the employers told us that they did not have a mandate from their boards of directors to negotiate. We felt a big tension “. The trade unionist believes that with the employer’s proposal, “the bottom of the scale would gain 3.5%”, that is “48.50 euros gross per month in addition”. He also notes that “the increases are more significant” in the higher levels.

The CGT representative specifies that he has proposed a 25% increase. “Things will now settle bilaterally, we have four weeks to move forward slowly”, said Stéphanie Dayan (CFDT). “Our proposal was the highest, but without the 13th month. And when we remove the frames, we are at 24%”. “I said we wanted a moderate increase if it was accompanied by the implementation of the 13th month”, said his FO colleague.

Jean Terlon, vice-president of the catering branch at the Union des métiers et des industries de l’hôtellerie (Umih), believes on franceinfo that he is “impossible” to respond to union demands. According to him, if the employers’ organizations were “in the sense” employee representatives, this would “lose a large part of French catering”. The next negotiation meeting, scheduled for December 16, will be closely followed by the Ministry of Labor, while this sector has been weakened by the health crisis.
