The emergencies of the Oloron-Sainte-Marie hospital still closed this weekend of July 30

The sad scenario repeats itself in Oloron. The city’s emergencies are not open on this last weekend of July. Blame it on a shortage of emergency doctors. The director of the establishment tries hard to find any available professionals. A situation that will worsen in August.

A very worrying end of summer

This is not the first shutdown of the service in recent times. Last May, he had already been forced to remain closed. The problem of the lack of doctors is not specific to the commune of Béarn, but is national. What worries people is that this problem should not improve in the Oloro establishment in August. “We have holes, days we couldn’t fillexplains Frédéric Lecenne, the director of the hospital. And for now, we have about 25% of doctor slots that are not covered.”

Emergencies will therefore still close some, or even all, weekends in August. This could also be the case on some weekdays. Apart from this total cessation of activity, emergencies will still work in “degraded” mode. Will we see a lull in the fall? Maybe. “For the month of September, we are a little more optimistic. We think we will have a few more doctors, knowing that it is still a very precarious situation“, says the director.

The mayor of the city is worried about the situation

The situation is considered very worrying by the mayor of OIoron. “It is the endangerment of life in the event of simultaneity of vital emergencies of people who cannot be rescued because the Pau hospital is too far from our cliffs, too far from our villages, explains, angrily, Bernard Uthurry. I think it’s high time, and I don’t understand how, in the petaudiere currently represented by the government and the National Assembly, the President of the Republic does not make this a national cause..”

He had a banner installed on the front of the town hall a few months ago. You can read there “The city of Oloron-Sainte-Marie supports its public hospital and all the professionals who support it“The mayor wants to show his full support.”Beyond the patients, there is also a staff, almost 600 people who are employed at the hospital in Oloron, a staff who are sufferinghe describes. It is not respectful towards a profession which is characterized by its empathy and its sense of service.
