The dislocated 2 CV of the “Corniaud”, the DS of “Rabbi Jacob” or the Méhari of the “Gendarme de Saint-Tropez”. The National Automobile Museum – Schlumpf Collection offers an exceptional exhibition of cars featuring the credits of the greatest successes of Louis de Funès, who died 40 years ago. To discover in Mulhouse until November 5th.
The automobile occupies an important place in the filmography of Louis de Funès. Cars, characters in their own right, which have become as cult as the films in which they appear. Prestigious but also popular models, such as the 2 CV, and in particular that of the famous accident which marks the shattering encounter between Bourvil and de Funès in Corniaud. For the first time, the scene of the accident is reproduced in the exhibition with one of the original models used in the filming.
The ubiquitous DS
“The 2 CV is all the same the accession for the French to a car at low cost, practical (…), it was a way of corresponding to its time. And if the 2 CV was very fashionable, well we used a 2 CV. If the DS is often present in the filmography of Louis de Funès, it is not for nothing, it is that it represented the way of life of the French at that time.“, explains Nora Ferreira, director of the Louis de Funès museum in Saint-Raphaël, curator of the exhibition organized in partnership with the Mulhouse museum.
The DS is also the model that appears the most in the films of Louis de Funès: Ghosts, The Adventures of Rabbi Jacob, hibernatus, The summer break or The Grand Restaurant. Fans will also be able to discover the Cadillac du Corniaud, or the Méhari from the Gendarmes series. In all, around twenty vehicles are exhibited in Mulhouse, as well as posters, filming photos or even accessories and costumes.
