The electronic method for submitting your provincial income tax return once again remains popular among Quebecers this year. More than 92% of declarations were sent via the internet.
This is what emerges from Revenu Québec’s tax season report. As of April 30, the agency indicates having received 6,165,000 declarations. Of this number, 5,675,000 were sent electronically, which represents more than 92% of the declarations received.
Last year, a total of 6,275,000 individuals preferred transmission via the internet, or 89% of the declarations received.
Revenu Québec emphasizes that online services offer the advantage of speeding up the processing of files and the payment of reimbursements. It targets a period of 14 days to make a refund or issue a notice of assessment for a declaration sent online, compared to 28 days for a declaration sent by post.
Furthermore, the agency specifies that 71% of people who have so far filed their tax return for 2023 receive a refund, while 22% have a tax balance to pay. The average reimbursement is $1,624.
Both federally and in Quebec, the last day to file your income tax return without penalty and interest was April 30. Only self-employed workers and their spouses still have until June 17, but the deadline for paying a balance due remained April 30. Interest may apply after this date.
