The June 2021 election of Lamia El Aaraje, the only PS deputy from Paris, was canceled on Friday January 28 by the Constitutional Council. In question: the presence in the first round of a candidate who fraudulently displayed the support of LREM on his ballot. The “fraudulent maneuvers” of Jean-Damien de Sinzogan, who was renamed “John of Bourbon” and had shown the support of La République en Marche when he did not benefit from the nomination of the presidential party, “have had the effect of undermining the sincerity of the ballot”, judged the Sages.

The institution chaired by former Prime Minister Laurent Fabius justifies its decision “taking into account the 449 votes he obtained and the small gap of 266 votes” having separated François-Marie Didier, LR candidate who arrived third in the first round, from Danielle Simonnet (LFI), who arrived second and qualified for the second round with lamia El Aaraje. Jean-Damien de Sinzogan was also declared ineligible for a three-year term.
