The election campaign of the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) produced 115 tonnes of greenhouse gases (GHG).

The Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) caravan produced close to 115 tonnes of greenhouse gases during the general election campaign. Compensating them will cost the government party $4,000.

When questioned two weeks ago about the carbon footprint of its campaign, the CAQ team had not been able to provide details to the To have to, but had undertaken to do so. Something promised, something due: the CAQ provided us with the precise tonnage generated by the chartering of its campaign bus, chartered flights and other support vehicles.

It is by far the caravan buses that have left the deepest imprint on the CAQ carbon footprint. Each of them — the leader’s bus and the media bus — produced more than 33 tonnes of CO2i.e. nearly one tonne per campaign day.

By boarding chartered flights to the Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Gaspésie and Côte-Nord, the CAQ contingent added 20 tonnes of CO2 to its broadcasts. The use of a spotter vehicle and an escort vehicle generated an additional 20 tonnes.

With a total of 114.77 tonnes of CO2 on the meter, the CAQ undertakes to neutralize its carbon footprint by buying carbon credits and by contributing to the planting of trees and to the Climate Change Research Fund of the École de technologie supérieure. It will cost him $4018.

Since the end of the election campaign, all parties have purchased carbon credits except the Conservative Party of Quebec, which nevertheless traveled 11,500 kilometers over 36 days.
