From May to September, the mayor of Chambon-Sainte-Croix (a small town of some 80 inhabitants in the north of the department) was removed from office after having behaved aggressively in full municipal council. When he returned in October, the divorce with his team was consummated. The mayor changed the locks and the mailbox of the town hall. No more communication with his deputies, no more city council, unilateral decisions and chain irregularities: for the management of the municipality and the citizens, the situation was untenable.
After having first proposed a collective resignation in September (refused), the prefect of Creuse reiterated her request to the seven elected officials of the commune on March 15. The resignation letters were already ready. This time they signed. The mayor only did so if the other elected officials resigned. And so they finally agreed, “for the interest of the municipality, so that it finds a healthy and effective management admits Jean-François Mérigot, the former first deputy. Otherwise, the procedure for impeachment of the municipal council (via the council of ministers) would have taken between 18 and 24 months, and during that time nothing was done within the commune, no more projects. So we accepted to consider a new ballot“.
New municipal elections should therefore be held within a few weeks in Chambon-Sainte-Croix. All resigning elected officials can stand for re-election. In the meantime, a special commission appointed by the prefecture is responsible for the day-to-day management of the commune.
We contacted the resigning mayor of Chambon-Sainte-Croix, who refused to speak to France Bleu Creuse.
