The eighth wave of Covid-19 is sweeping through France with nearly 95,000 new cases in 24 hours. On the set of 12/13, Wednesday October 12, Damien Mascret, doctor and journalist, explains this increase.

According to a California study, the symptoms of the Omicron variant are different. “We have in this study, not only people who have been contaminated by Omicron, there are more than 3,000, but also people from the Delta period, there are 468 and even from the period before Delta, there there are more than 1000”lists Damien Mascret, doctor, journalist France Télévisions, present on the set of 12/13, Wednesday October 12.

This study showed that symptoms of cough and sore throat are more common with Omicron. Other symptoms, however, are less common, such as fever, which affects three out of ten people. The loss of taste and smell only affects more than one in 20 people, compared to 1 in 5 previously. Another change, “until now, we thought that the contagiousness of a sick person was up to seven days (…). In reality, with Omicron, we now realize that after seven days, we still have a person out of two that is contagious”concludes Damien Mascret.
