The Eiffel Tower will go dark on Monday October 7, at 11:45 p.m., in tribute to the victims of the unprecedented attack by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas in Israel on October 7, 2023, as it did a year ago, announced in AFP Paris town hall.
“To commemorate this tragedy and honor the memory of the victims of October 7 as well as those who died during their detention, Paris has decided to turn off the Eiffel Tower this evening at 11:45 p.m.” for a few minutes, indicated the town hall, owner of the emblematic monument of the capital.
The Eiffel Tower went dark last year in the wake of the unprecedented Hamas attack, which killed 1,206 people, mostly civilians, and sparked the war in the Gaza Strip that left nearly 42,000 dead and the opening of another front in Lebanon.
On October 9, the iron lady was lit up in the colors of the Israeli flag. “This despicable attack, the first pogrom of the 21st century, plunged the Middle East into chaos where civilian victims numbered in the tens of thousands“, added the Paris town hall.
“Beyond this commemoration, the mayor of Paris calls for a just and lasting peace, seeking all peaceful solutions for Israeli citizens as well as for the Palestinian and Lebanese civilian populations”And “reiterates its commitment to a two-state solution”.
