The final stretch before the Games has begun. The five Olympic rings were installed on the night of Thursday June 6 to Friday June 7 on the Eiffel Tower, 70 meters high. The intertwined red, green, blue, black and yellow circles, representing the five continents, were hung between the first and second floors, held together by cables.
These rings, made from recycled steel by Arcelor Mittal, were first assembled on the ground. During the night from Thursday to Friday, cranes then hoisted them onto the face located on the Seine side. Equipped with 100,000 low-consumption LEDs, they must shine continuously. During the day, they will be in Olympic colors and at night, they will be lit in white. The rings will remain suspended until the end of the Paralympic Games.
The colored circles are 15 meters high, 25 meters wide, have a diameter of nine meters each and together weigh 30 tonnes. They are larger than those installed on Tower Bridge for the London Olympic Games, in particular because the Iron Lady is wider.
