The Edible Campus association opens a new vegetable garden at the University of Dijon

The Campus Edible association is opening a new vegetable garden on the site of the University of Dijon. This association offers students and local residents the opportunity to take care of the gardens twice a week. In addition to these afternoons, the volunteers organize workshops with children from schools in the Dijon area. Since the end of March 2022, a new vegetable garden has been created: the objective is to produce more vegetables.

A meeting place

Every week, a hundred people pass through the garden: there are those who plant, and then there are simply those who come to find themselves. This is also one of the first objectives of the association according to Yoann Curmin, one of the founders of the association: “it really is a place where the inhabitants of the neighborhood can gather”.

Students, retirees or children meet here regularly. Patricia is a local resident, she is coming to the garden for the first time: “I like gardening and then it’s an opportunity to meet new people”.

A new vegetable garden to produce more

Since the end of March 2022, a new vegetable garden has opened. The objective is to produce vegetables more regularly: “we hope to produce 200 kilograms of potatoes by autumn 2022”explains Yoann Curmin, one of the founders of the association. These vegetables will be donated to Epi’campus, a solidarity association of the university which offers baskets of vegetables.

But to succeed in growing so many vegetables, the association is calling on new volunteers to get involved: “We have a lot of changes, the students do not necessarily come every week”.
