“The echo of pearls”, Corneille | The duty

Corneille today highlights his twenty-year career in an ingenious way, not by revisiting his successes, but by unearthing eleven lesser-known songs from his repertoire, thus making them pass for new ones. What makes the project ingenious is its musical style: the R&B singer rightly claims the right to contribute to the afrobeats movement which has taken the planet by storm in recent years. It’s making something new out of something old, a good idea! Freed of her acoustic guitar and her piano motif, Leave me alone (taken fromBetween North and South, 2013) reveals itself, in its precious rhythm, a real gem of a pop song. From the same album, Heavenrelieved of beat original dance, draws inspiration from South African amapiano to give itself wings. When Corneille is not dabbling with Nigerian pop, he gives an air of modern dance pop to his songs, as on this successful rereading of OUR yearimagined with Laurence Nerbonne.
