The Eastern Townships, favorite of the New York Times

The Eastern Townships appear this year in the prestigious annual list of places to discover in the world according to the renowned daily New York Times.

The bucolic region of southern Quebec is in fact the only one in the country to appear on this list, alongside famous places like London and the Navajo Monument Valley or the magical Kilmartin Glen, in Scotland, or the incredible desert Tassili n’Ajjer, Algeria.

“We’re going all out for being with such mythical destinations, especially since the New York Times, it’s not a small media, and it is aimed precisely at a clientele that we want to reach, says Annie Langevin, general manager of Tourisme Cantons-de-l’Est. The news will go a long way, it sheds a beautiful light on our region, we hope it will create some traffic. But we already believe that it will have a direct impact on cycling lovers, who will be challenged directly by the Véloroute gourmande. »

In addition to the vineyards, the cheese factories (and the poutine!), the New York Times makes direct mention of the 235 km cycling route that connects Montreal to Sherbrooke by offering more than 120 gourmet stops. “It’s a short article, but it manages to fully understand what our destination is,” continues Mr.me Langevin. The gourmet cycle route is an invitation to take your time, and that’s precisely what we are, because we suggest people take the time to stay with us. »

The New York daily describes the Eastern Townships as Canada’s New England, with a touch of French flair, accompanying the text with a superb winter photo of the Abbey of Saint-François-du-Lac, a nod to eye to the fact that the region is welcoming in all seasons.

“We had no idea that our region was going to be on this list, admits Annie Langevin. But we are proud and delighted, it’s a great recognition, but also a nice pat on the back for our partners. »
