The E.Leclerc brand announced on Tuesday, September 26, that it would offer from Friday “gasoline at cost price every day” in 750 of its service stations. This announcement takes place a few hours before a meeting planned in Matignon with fuel distributors, which aims to convince them to “take their share”after All distributors rejected the government’s request to sell at a loss.
The chairman of the strategic committee of the E.Leclerc group, Michel-Edouard Leclerc, made known on that“from September 29, the 750 service stations in Leclerc hypermarkets would sell gasoline ‘at cost’ daily. This clearly means without profit and every day, not just on weekends as during our previous operations”he stressed. “It is a positive response to the president’s call, ordering each player in the sector to offer discounts or lower prices”he also writes, also evoking “an act of solidarity towards all customers frightened by the increases and whose purchasing power is very impacted“.
Earlier in the morning, the boss of Système U, Dominique Schelcher, confirmed on BFMTV-RMC that he would proceed by “operations”: “This cannot be permanent cost price”he specified, referring to his brand of “low margins, 2 cents on average per liter”.
