In the Landes, the inhabitants of Capbreton fight against erosion while enjoying the environment conducive to horseback riding. A vineyard also grows in the middle of the dunes.

The Landes coast stretches endlessly. On the wild beach of Capbreton, riders can live out their passion. Originally from the Landes, Patrick Bareyre has lived on the Atlantic coast for 33 years with his horses. “We are regulated on the entrances to the dunes, so as not to mess up”, he explains. The seaside resort multiplies the work, reforming the dunes or planting grasses and trees to protect the vegetation.

Wine in the dunes

In Capbreton, the work of the winegrowers also contributes to the preservation of the wild and fragile environment. Medieval tradition reintroduced in 1995, the vineyards sheltered by the forest take advantage of the first thaws of spring. They grow in a mixture of sand and organic matter. “The white sand of the ocean gives wines that are light in alcohol but very aromatic. The reverberation on the ground will mature the grapes naturally”explains Alan Lesbordes, Head of Cultivation at Domaine de la Pointe.
