Three out of ten French people do not take their tablets correctly. The National Medicines Safety Agency is launching an awareness campaign on Wednesday, June 7 against the harmful effects.

Whether prescribed by prescription or over the counter, medications are never to be taken lightly. However, many French people practice self-medication. “I tend to reuse medications that I had in prescription during a previous consultation with a doctor“, notes a local resident. “As for Doliprane, I’m going to self-medicate”, continues another. To relieve themselves more quickly, one in five French people takes higher doses or mixes several drugs at once.

“Danger is to combine drugs”

It’s a risky trend. “The danger is to combine drugs that are not intended to be combined. You risk diminishing the efficiency”says Damien Mascret, doctor and journalist at France Télévisions. Three out of ten French people themselves adapt the dose or duration of the treatments prescribed to them.
