the drug addict suspect was using a fake gun

The suspect in the series of robberies organized in the agglomeration of Périgueux has admitted the facts. Arrested this Tuesday morning on leaving his home, the man in his fifties explained in police custody about the four robberies committed on August 22, 24 and 27 in Chancelade and Périgueux. A long-time cocaine user, the suspect committed these thefts to pay for his drug, announces the public prosecutor of Périgueux. Investigators searched his home and found a truncheon in the basement and “the handgun used in the incident”, says Solène Belaour. The weapon turned out to be a fake gun.

Twenty mentions in his criminal record

The suspect will be presented this Wednesday afternoon to an investigating judge at the Périgueux court. A judicial investigation for “theft with a weapon” and “extortion with a weapon” is open. The three other people placed in police custody since Tuesday in this case were, on the other hand, exonerated.

The suspect, originally from Montpellier, has twenty entries on his criminal record since 1995, mainly for theft. The last conviction dates from 2019. Released from detention in October 2021, he settled a few months later in the Dordogne. The man in his fifties was hired on a permanent contract as a kitchen clerk in a restaurant. He had been on sick leave for two weeks before his arrest.
