As expected, the rate of coverage for dental care has decreased: the remaining cost increases from 30 to 40%. What are the consequences on the bill and on the mutual insurance company? Explanations.

Since October 15, Health Insurance only reimburses 60% of dental costs, instead of 70. The rest will be covered by mutual insurance, for those who have one. The news worries patients. “It’s not luxury. We all have the right to be able to eat properly“, said one of them. “We are going to deprive ourselves of something in order to be able to get treatment“, deplores another.

500 million less annual spending

The 10% reduction in reimbursements represents 500 million fewer annual expenses for Health Insurance. The sum will now be borne by the mutual societies, which will pass on the expense from 2024 to contributions. Health Insurance ensures that the 500 million euros saved will be used to put in place preventive measures for the youngest. If the increases in contributions are expected to oscillate between 9 and 11%, the bill will be even higher for the 2.5 million French people without complementary health insurance.
