The driver who caused the death of conductor Boris Brott has been found guilty

The man who overturned Boris Brott in a car on April 5, 2022, on a street in Hamilton, Ontario, where the conductor, director of the Orchester Classique de Montréal, lived, was sentenced on Monday by the court of Hamilton.

Judge Fred Campling found 35-year-old Arsenije Lojovic guilty of dangerous driving causing death, hit-and-run, and breach of probation.

On April 5, 2022, around 5 p.m., the news of the tragic death of Boris Brott, a warm, charismatic and welcoming character, loved by all, had shaken the musical world. The emblematic conductor of the McGill Chamber Orchestra, now the Orchester Classique de Montréal (OCM), was mowed down in the morning near his home by a vehicle driven by a driver who, in addition, had fled the scene.

The driver responsible had been arrested by the police. Taken to hospital, Boris Brott quickly succumbed to his injuries, leaving to mourn his wife, Ardyth, his children, Ben, Alexandra and David, his grandchildren, his brother Denis and the entire musical community.

According to Hamilton Spectatorpresent Monday at the time of the verdict, the family of Boris Brott made no comment.

As for Arsenije Lojovic, he had pleaded not guilty to the three counts. Ironically, his probation was also for a dangerous driving offence. In 2019, driving a van, he entered a park in Grimsby, near Hamilton, crisscrossing green spaces filled with families on a Saturday afternoon in August, fortunately causing no casualties. After hitting a tree and a volleyball post, the driver drove off the scene at high speed, according to reports at the time. His sentence will be set on August 31.
