A motorist suspected of fatally hitting a police officer on Monday evening in the Alpes-Maritimes has been “arrested in Cannes”announced the resigning Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, on Tuesday August 27, on X. This man is “a Cape Verdean, a legal foreigner on national soil”, “who had numerous traffic offences, including refusal to comply”according to Gérald Darmanin. “On several occasions, over the past few years, he has been a road offender.”he insists.

The slain gendarme, Eric Comyn, was 54 years old, married and the father of two children, aged 12 and 16, according to the Ministry of the Interior. This warrant officer had been engaged for more than thirty years in the gendarmerie as a non-commissioned officer and had joined the platoon of Mandelieu-la-Napoule (Alpes-Maritimes) in 2007.
