The driver of the truck whose sideboard had struck a school bus in Rochefort (Charente-Maritime) on February 11, 2016, causing the death of six teenagers and the injuries of ten others, will be referred to the La Rochelle criminal court from 28 to March 30, 2022, announced Friday November 05 the parquet of La Rochelle in a press release. The driver had been indicted two days after the facts for “manslaughter”.

The driver’s employer, the company Eiffage, which had also been indicted for “manslaughter”, for its part benefits from a “partial dismissal”, explains the prosecution, because “the legislation in force at the time of the facts did not make it possible to sufficiently characterize the offenses.”

The accident took place on February 11 at around 7.20 a.m. This school bus was on the Ile d’Oléron-Surgères link. It carried 15 middle and high school students. The bus had just left Rochefort station when it passed a construction truck. As the two vehicles passed each other, the truck’s side drop side opened and sheared the side of the bus, killing six teenagers.
