Starring Geneviève Ackerman, Étienne Pilon and the two directors, this film is distributed by the Montreal house La distributrice de films.

On the latter’s website, the synopsis reads as follows: “Constance works for an independent radio station where she broadcasts her radio productions of a political nature. She shares her life with Eugène, who wants her to become a writer. Both regularly welcome Béatrice, a young itinerant with a lonely and tragic temperament, to their modest apartment. Their destiny intersects that of Raoul Debord, a mysterious man at the head of a revolutionary organization, and whose next mission is to divert the radio waves from the city. ”

Joined by Press, Renaud Després-Larose said he was happy, but also relieved of the selection because he and his wife Ana Tapia Rousiouk have long carried the project at arm’s length. “We worked on this film for four years, almost without subsidies,” says the filmmaker. When the film was shortlisted in Rotterdam, we got a helping hand from the Canada Council for the Arts in postproduction. We also obtained the support of the sound creation laboratory of the University of Montreal. ”

The scenario, he adds, is largely fueled by the meetings and experiences of the main craftsmen. “It’s close to our real lives, and to a meeting between Geneviève, Ana and me,” he says.

Mr. Després-Larose has done a lot of photography since the start of his career and we note that the film indeed stands out with its very unique visual signature. “Everything is lit by candle and without artificial light,” he says. It’s shot entirely at night. There are chiaroscuro. Also, I used one of the very first HD cameras, which results in a quirky aesthetic, a more grainy image. ”

Immediately after Rotterdam, The dream and the radio will be presented at the eighth edition of Berlin Critic’s Week, an event held in conjunction with the Berlinale. It is due to appear in Quebec later in 2022.

This is the American drama Please Baby Please by Amanda Kramer who will open the Rotterdam festival, replacing the Dutch film Along the way. The distributors preferred to withdraw this film following the decision to present the festival only online.

Starring Andrea Riseborough, Harry Melling and Demi Moore, Please Baby Please tells the story of a newlywed couple who, witnessing a murder in Manhattan in the 1950s, are taken to task by a gang of young people obsessed with their gender identity.

The other films in official competition come from Russia, India, Portugal, Mexico, the Netherlands, Australia, etc.
