The draw for the NHL draft will take place on May 10

The National Hockey League has announced that the draw to determine the order of selection for the top 16 picks in the first round of the 2022 draft will take place on Tuesday, May 10.

The list of participants in the draw will include all teams that will not qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, or teams that have acquired the first round pick of an eliminated club.

Given the changes made on March 23, 2021 to the draw formula, only the 11 worst teams in the final standings will have the chance to be awarded the very first choice.

The team that finishes last in the overall standings will have an 18.5 percent chance of earning the first-ever draft pick.

Heading into Wednesday’s games, the Arizona Coyotes (22-49-5, 49 points) were ranked 32and and last in the overall standings, two points behind the Montreal Canadiens (20-46-11, 51 points), who had played one more game.

Wright still favorite

The 2022 Draft will take place at the Bell Center in Montreal on July 7-8. The day of July 7 will be reserved exclusively for the first round. Rounds 2 to 7 will be held the following day.

Shane Wright, a center for the OHL’s Kingston Frontenacs, ranks first among North American skaters, according to the National Hockey League’s Central Scouting Bureau. He is considered the favorite to be claimed first overall.
