the Dordogne crossed in 2023? A rumor to beware

It’s a little music that rustles, which circulates more and more insistent in recent days in Périgord. And if the Tour de France passed in the Dordogne in 2023? On social networks, cards bearing the Tour logo circulate by placing Bergerac as the city of arrival, or even place a day of rest in the Dordogne with a departure from Périgueux in the next stage. Should they be taken seriously? France Blue Perigord tried to find out a little more.

When we try to find out where the Grande Boucle will pass, one way to find out is to go through the hotels. And surprised: “Yes, we have all the rooms reserved for July 5 and 6, 2023”, assures a Bergerac hotelier on the phone. Stack in the dates displayed by certain cards. But the manager is quick to point out: “It was the same last year. The organization that had reserved the rooms canceled the reservation a few weeks later”.

Germinal Peiro wrote to the boss of the Tour

On the elected side, no one says they got an invite. It is traditionally at this time of year that it falls. On the other hand, some readily admit that they have been forcing the organization of the race for several months. The mayor of Bergerac Jonathan Prioleaud went to follow a stage last summer in Cahors, in a car of the direction of the race to praise to Christian Prudhomme the advantages of a finish on the straight line of Picquecailloux.

He is not the only one. The entourage of Germinal Peiro assures that the president of the department wrote a letter to the boss of the Tour. It’s true that after hosting the race in 2014 and 2017, five years without the caravan passing through Périgord, it seems like an eternity. The route will remain, or not, secret, until October 27 and the official revelation by ASO, the organizer of the race. In the meantime, all we know for sure is that the first three stages will run through the Basque Country. We can always keep hope.
