Floods can be deadly and devastating phenomena. Sparing no place on the planet. And human activity can also accelerate extreme climate events. In recent years, renaturation projects have become more and more numerous.

Majestic, the Dordogne winds through the middle of the forests, crossing six departments. She has sometimes suffered from human activities. Here, major work is underway to return the site to nature. Twenty-two hectares where nature has lost its grip after decades of industrial extraction of pebbles taken directly from the river. These pebbles were used to build roads and buildings. On this site, work is being carried out to prevent flooding in the event of high water.

By placing logs along the routes allowing the water to return to its bed, engineers create breeding areas for fish in winter, thus allowing greater respect for biodiversity. Two years ago, an old gravel pit was restored. Birds, fish and frogs that fled the area returned to live there once the redevelopment work was completed.
