A documentary about life on a farm is released in the midst of an agricultural crisis. It is called “La Ferme des Bertrand” and traces the life of a family of breeders in Haute-Savoie over three generations.

In Mieussy, in a bucolic valley of Haute-Savoie, the landscape is preserved. There we find the Bertrand farm. Among the fifty or so inhabitants of the village, Gilles Perret, a native of the country, is a director. For the second time, 25 years apart, he filmed the daily lives of his farmer neighbors. By mixing archive images, the film retraces a family saga. It begins in the 1970s with three brothers who work hard to build their ideal farm.

An optimistic documentary

Through this family, Gilles Perret tells the story of happy agriculture, with The Bertrand Farm. “There are possible models of happiness and success in agriculture”, says the director. He traveled across France for a series of previews. This documentary offers a breath of optimism at a time when French farmers are expressing their unease.
