“It is not up to Emmanuel Macron to renew his confidence in the Prime Minister”, assures this Saturday on franceinfo Mathilde Panot. The president of the LFI group in the National Assembly reacts to Emmanuel Macron’s announcement confirming his confidence in his Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne:
Emmanuel Macron instructs Elisabeth Borne to sound out the parliamentary groups, from the Communists to the LRs, in order to form a new government. La France insoumise is not a government party?
Yes, we are ready to govern, we have shown it during this campaign and we have a programmatic agreement with 50 measures. I believe that the President of the Republic is trying to divide the New Popular Union. However, during our intergroup meeting this week, the four parliamentary groups all agreed that we would vote against confidence in this government. Division play will not work on the Nupes.
If a member of Nupes were to accept this presidential offer, would he be immediately disavowed?
Yes. I believe that what Nupes is carrying is precisely an alternative to the vision of the world and to the project of ecological mistreatment that Emmanuel Macron carries and that, on the contrary, we carry a society of mutual aid. We bring the retirement to 60 years, the increase in wages to 1,500 euros for the SMIC. We are increasing the autonomy guarantee to 1,063 euros for young people. In short, we carry a completely different world than that offered to us by Emmanuel Macron.
What do you think of the fact that Emmanuel Macron still does not give up this Saturday evening on the pension reform?
I think he lives in some sort of parallel reality. He did not understand the meaning of the ballot box results of these legislative elections. The majority of the French people chose not to give a guarantee to Emmanuel Macron’s project and therefore refused this retirement project at age 65. We have already succeeded once in defeating this pension reform. We are ready to defeat it again if he dares to present it before the assembly.
Are you also going to support the presidential majority which has tabled a bill to include the right to abortion in the Constitution?
We proposed yesterday to make this bill. I completely agree with guaranteeing and securing a fundamental right of women which is today under attack in many places in the world and in particular in the United States today. Afterwards, I just wonder why La République en Marche wants to do its own text when I proposed it yesterday and why it refused our proposal in 2018? But you know, we will not play political games on an issue and a cause as important as that of women’s rights to control their bodies.
