At the exit of the Stellantis factory in Poissy, in Yvelines, few employees agreed to react to the microphone on the announced remuneration of the group’s boss, Carlos Tavares. Shareholders are asked to give their opinion on the remuneration of the general director of the industrial giant, which is once again causing controversy. Some 36.5 million euros is the total amount that the boss of the world’s fourth largest automobile group could receive, according to the company’s annual financial report.

A 56-year-old man, who works in logistics, finally agreed. He receives 2,000 euros net salary each month, a far cry from the big boss’s millions. “We’re not going to compare ourselves to him, but… it’s abominable”he judges.

“Fort-feeding, indecent…”, says Thomas, a little further away. At 51, this operator on the production line “key 2 100 euros with 22 years of seniority”: “It’s very nice not to give us more, but we shouldn’t ask for more from the other side. Because that’s what’s happening right now. They never have enough. We always need more!”he concludes.

“Well-paid bosses don’t bother me as long as everyone benefits. We eliminate hierarchical levels, we fill positions to the maximum.”

Same feeling of anger on the side of the unions. “36.5 million euros is 100 000 euros per daycalculates Jean-Pierre Mercier, South delegate of the Poissy factory. These are the people, shareholders and CEOs, who tell us, workers, that we cost too much.”

The Stellantis group argues that Carlos Tavares’ salary “90% depends on the performance of the group”. Gold, “he is doing well” with a record profit of 18.6 billion euros last year. CEO remuneration, up 56%, “is therefore proportional to the good results achieved by the manufacturer”estimates the group which, to counter criticism, highlights the profit-sharing bonus of 3,700 euros net received this year by employees.
