“Maria”: the director of the film moved by Maria Schneider’s journey

Jessica Palud is the guest for the last 5 minutes to present her film “Maria” which is an adaptation of the book entitled “your name was Maria Schneider” by Vanessa Schneider.

Guest of the last 5 minutes, the director admits to having been moved by the journey of the young actress after a trauma experienced during the film “Last Tango”. Thus, Jessica Palud was keen to transcribe the distress of a young actress who dared to speak but who was not listened to.

In this erotic film produced by Bernardo Bertolucci released in 1972, several sequences are subject to controversy, notably that of (simulated) sodomy of which the actress was unaware. “Her tears are real, during this scene she does not act, because she was not aware” says the director on the set. Died at 58, the actress never had the opportunity to obtain an apology from the director.

Reduced to silence by her agent at the time and by her own father, Maria Schneider admitted years later to having never recovered from the conditions of shooting this film.
