The director of the Cégep de Saint-Hyacinthe is “absent” in the turmoil

Pushed out by his faculty, the director general of the Cégep de Saint-Hyacinthe, Emmanuel Montini, is leaving his post at least temporarily. Last week, the teachers of the establishment had unanimously demanded his resignation in a context of a work climate deemed “unhealthy”.

At the end of April, the Minister of Higher Education, Pascale Déry, had asked her ministry to draw up a “state of the situation” after having learned in an article from the Duty “worrying allegations” about the tense climate between employees and management as well as the high dropout and failure rates of computer science students.

“Emmanuel Montini will be absent on sick leave for the next few weeks. Already, we are taking the necessary steps to ensure an interim, a smooth transition and minimize disruptions, ”announced the Cégep on Tuesday in a short written communication. The administration had not responded to requests for clarification from the Duty at the time these lines were written.

Last Wednesday, the professors voted unanimously to withdraw their confidence in the director general and the president of the board of directors of the establishment. They are now calling for their resignation.
