The manager of a private residence for seniors in Montreal allegedly billed the state for services to residents that were never provided.
The Permanent Anti-Corruption Unit (UPAC) claims that Paul Asselin, 60, allegedly produced false invoices for various treatments on behalf of patients at the Les Jardins de Jouvence residence, while these tenants were absent.
He requested reimbursement for this care from the Integrated Health and Social Services Center (CIUSSS) of the East-of-the-island of Montreal, indicates the UPAC in a press release.
The alleged fraud would have lasted more than a year, from March 2021 to April 2022. It is estimated at more than $4,000, according to UPAC.
Paul Asselin, general manager of the Jardins de Jouvence, in the Tétreaultville district, was accused last Thursday of fraud under $5,000, production and use of false documents. He is due in court on May 31.
The CIUSSS declined to comment directly on the matter, but Christian Merciari, assistant to the CEO, assured in an email that the agency was reviewing its verification process to ensure better control of the bill payment mechanism.
RPA Les Jardins de Jouvence did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
