A few weeks after his release, the city of Izioum, in Ukraine, is still healing its wounds. It was occupied by the Russians for five months. Everything needs to be rebuilt, from houses to infrastructure, but the means are lacking.
Izioumin eastern Ukraine, is a martyr city among many others. The Russians occupied it for five months. The city was liberated a few weeks ago, during the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian army. Before the war, Izioum had 45,000 inhabitants. Today, among the ruins, there are only a few thousand. They want to stay and rebuild their lives.
At the entrance to the city, a bridge was cut in two. The infrastructure was destroyed by Russian forces before their retreat. Its repair has begun. The bridge is essential to cross the river, and supply Izioum. To Izioumalmost everything needs to be repaired, which is not easy when the means are lacking. So everyone is doing what they can to erase the stigmata of the Russian occupation. Painstaking work that discourages the older ones. The inhabitants are above all waiting for the restoration of water, gas and electricity before the coming winter.
