Monday, November 14 marks World Diabetes Day, a disease that affects more and more children. Reportage.
World Diabetes Day is Monday, November 14. This disease affects nearly four million people in France, including many children. It is therefore necessary to monitor blood sugar levels very regularly and to adapt their diet. “I learned how to manage, I will have it all my life and I have to control often“, explains Laura Forget, diabetic aged 9. Diabetes is a disease that varies according to age, season or mood.
Children who are affected by diabetes must undergo regular examinations, like Timothée Kyhengwho goes to the hospital every three months. “In fact, it’s a normal day (…) except that I have to check my blood sugar before meals”describes the young boy, aged 10. He takes his insulin shots alone. “We progress all the time, and then everyone goes at their own pace too, and we do according to our child“, says Solène Kyheng, Timothée’s mother. To help them, families can count on pediatricians.
