(Philadelphia) Corbin Carroll put the ball to safety three times in four at-bats and the Arizona Diamondbacks punched their ticket to the World Series by defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 in Game 7 of the National League Championship Series on Tuesday.
Carroll drove in two runs and crossed the plate twice to help the Daimondbacks reach the World Series for the first time in 22 years. They will now face the Texas Rangers for the title, with the first game scheduled for Friday at Globe Life Field.
In their only World Series appearance, the Diamondbacks won a hard-fought series against the New York Yankees in seven games in 2001.
The young Diamondbacks, who went 84-78 in the regular season, came from behind to erase a 2-0 deficit in this series against the Phillies. They won the sixth and seventh games in Philadelphia, where the Phillies were 12-2 in the last two postseason tournaments.
Brandon Pfaadt struck out seven batters in four innings and five relievers came on to confirm the victory.
The Phillies therefore missed the opportunity to reach the World Series for a second straight season, playing in the process their first game number seven in their 141-year history.
