Accompanying people “from the street to housing”, such is the mission of the Diaconate of Bordeaux. This association of 250 employees works with people who are excluded and offers 600 reception and accommodation places in Bordeaux Métropole and the South Gironde, but also 390 accommodations to accommodate individuals, families from all walks of life and any difficulties. Men, women, families, asylum seekers, emergency migrants, emergency reception centres, unaccompanied minors, female victims of violence… whatever the profile of the applicants, the members of the team support and follow up on files with legal and social support if necessary. Finding yourself homeless can affect everyone, whether it is due to a fire or due to climatic conditions.
Growing needs
The housing sector is very impacted by exceptional issues, such as those linked to the pandemic. The Diaconate has thus made accommodation available for the isolation of people who need to isolate themselves but do not have the means to do so in decent conditions. On the other hand, they are also involved in welcoming Ukrainian men and women arriving in our department. Citizen mobilization is strong and there are many offers from individuals (solidarity hosts to offer a room, a space). You can contact the prefecture which centralizes the requests.
