The DG of Laval leaves his post with more than half a million in compensation

The director general of the City of Laval, Jacques A. Ulysse, will leave his functions with more than half a million dollars in compensation.

He will receive the equivalent of 22 months’ salary, or $617,000, the mayor of Laval, Stéphane Boyer, announced in a press release on Monday.

The two parties agreed on his departure and the compensation to be paid. His term will end on February 10. The agreement will first have to be ratified by the executive committee on Wednesday.

“According to the case law observed, several factors influence the severance pay, including the age of the person concerned and his ability to find a comparable job. In fact, all the experts consulted confirmed to me that our negotiated agreement was faithful to our obligations – no more, no less,” the mayor specified in his press release.

Mr. Boyer also pointed out that, although this type of agreement is always subject to numerous confidentiality clauses, it was necessary for him to be transparent and honest about the amount of compensation.

Jacques Ulysse joined the City in 2016 as Deputy Director General of Local Services, then became Director General in 2018.

The mayor highlighted his contribution to the administration of the City during the pandemic to ensure services to citizens in difficult circumstances.

“Without a shadow of a doubt, Mr. Ulysse was the right person, in the right place, at the right time. We are now moving on to a new chapter,” concluded Stéphane Boyer.
