The destroyers of Montreal and the dream of the great phallic towers

What should we do in the face of accelerated population growth and the resulting housing crisis?

We recently learned that the Montreal Metropolitan Community is tempted by the idea of accelerated urban densification.

In concrete terms, it would involve building large residential towers almost everywhere which will undoubtedly disfigure the architectural face of Montreal, whose charm is nevertheless that of being a city on a human scale.

Neighborhoods

Montreal will depersonalize at the same rate as it becomes impersonalized. Its neighborhoods will no longer be the same.

Large, more or less phallic towers will replace our horizontal housing system, which reminds us that our metropolis has always been, in its own way, a collection of villages. We will see a loss of urban identity. Let us not be mistaken: behind this pseudo-pragmatism, indifferent to the history of the city and the social relationships it has generated, we find this authoritarian ecologism which transforms large cities into fields of ideological experimentation.

They, sooner or later, will want to control the size of the apartments available depending on the number of people living there. They represent a form of green neo-Soviet finicky spirit that will be increasingly pervasive in our lives.

Environmentalism

We will also see the direct consequence of massive immigration causing population growth, apparently forcing us to completely transform our housing structure.

Mass immigration has not been imposed on us for 3 or 4 years, as we can read here and there, among those who want to put its impact and its capacity to completely destabilize our society into perspective, but for more than 20 years. At least, I might add.

I’ll come back to this: we find in this “urban densification” project which intends to pile Montrealers on top of each other another example of the serious political incompetence of the elites who have presided over our destinies for quite a while.
