The bombings are terrible, they make a terrifying noise”, describes Rami on the phone from Gaza. He holds his youngest daughter, Dhahab, in his arms. The line is bad, when it finally establishes itself, the father speaks to share his despair. “I decided to stop eating. I don’t eat anymore, what’s the point?” he says. “Everyone is waiting for their turn to die. It might be tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, it will eventually happen“, laments Rami. Since Saturday October 28, Israeli army operations against the Gaza Strip have intensified.

In addition to little Dhahab, aged one and a half years old, Rami is the father of Adam, 10 years old, and Line, 6 years old. The last time he was interviewed, last week, he said he was fighting for the survival of his people. But now he lowers his arms and breathes: “Who would want to live in hell?”

“You think Gaza is the largest open-air prison in the world? No, it’s the smallest prison cell in the world. It’s the most densely populated place“, explains Rami. “And our territory is now reduced, since the Israeli army will occupy the north of Gaza. It’s the same population, with half the space.”

“We would need a miracle to get through all of this.”

Like many Gazans, Rami wrote his telephone number and their names on the bodies of his children, directly on their skin. “This is so that they can be identified in the event of an Israeli strike”explains the father.
