Marseille: the descent into hell of an ex-Bac Nord cop

Marseille: the descent into hell of an ex-Bac Nord cop – (France 2)

What happened to the Bac Nord police officers who were sent to detention for corruption, racketeering and drug trafficking? Eleven of them were convicted and seven were acquitted.

“Marseille, she is loved or hated. I loved her. But here, I went from super cop to scoundrel.” These words were put on paper to recount the ten years of his life which had a profound impact on him. The wound has closed, but the scar is still there. Sébastien Soulé, former member of Bac Nord, took the France 2 teams to the northern districts of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône). “It may seem calm like that and then in ten seconds, you have around thirty individuals coming out of who knows where and running after you or throwing objects at you”he says.

18 arrested in October 2012

For eight years, he chased delinquents in these neighborhoods. “For them, we were the Bac Nord, the one who was not afraid to enter a neighborhood together and for us, we were simply doing our job”, he remembers. But everything came to an abrupt end in October 2012 when he was arrested with 17 other colleagues. They are suspected of having extorted, as an organized gang, the city’s traffickers and seized money and drugs for their personal accounts. The descent into hell then begins.
