Firefighters had feared him since Monday. A fire when the conditions were the worst you could imagine: very dry vegetation, no rain forecast and wind. The fire broke out in the Saint-Charles market in Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales). Vegetation ignited along two companies, 260 people were evacuated. In two hours, the fire was brought under control, thanks to the presence of a small river that was not completely dry.
80 people from Aude, Ariège and Hérault
Because the department is experiencing an unprecedented situation for the month of May, with a very severe risk of fires. On the morning of Tuesday May 16, the firefighters of Perpignan welcomed reinforcements, 80 people from Aude, Ariège and Hérault. Their mission: for 48 hours, be ready to intervene at the slightest outbreak of fire. In other years, this system was only put in place from July. And it is the whole of the south of France which is worried. The wind should drop from Thursday, but there is still no rain expected.
