The French department in which the greatest number of cars were stolen in 2023 is that of Bouches-du-Rhônes, according to the ranking of the Group of French insurers.

With more than 50 vehicle thefts per 10,000 inhabitants on average, the Bouches-du-Rhône department is first in the ranking according to the French Insurers Group.
In 2023, the police headquarters confirmed to France Bleu Provence that it had recorded more than 30,000 thefts linked to motorized vehicles in Marseille and the Bouches-du-Rhône department. An almost stable trend, up 0.9% compared to 1.2% at the national level and after an increase of 20% between 2022 and 2021. “Thefts of automobile accessories fall by 8% in one year in Marseille and Bouches-du-Rhône”, also specifies the prefecture.
Antennas, mirrors, headlights, bumpers, these flights fuel traffic, particularly to Eastern countries and Africa from Marseille. The most targeted car models are the Clio 4, Mégane 4, Peugeot 3008. They are also the most sold in France.
