The end of a suspenseful saga for the Girondins de Bordeaux? The historic club of French football should indeed play in National 2 next season. Demoted for financial reasons by the National Management Control Directorate (DNCG) to National 1, then to National 2 (4th level of French football), the Bordeaux team had appealed this decision. The club, placed in receivership the previous week, failed to convince the Appeals Commission.
The club’s owner, Gérard Lopez, heard via videoconference, wanted to keep his team in National 1. In vain, because the financial policeman of French football did not reverse his judgment and confirmed his decision of administrative demotion to National 2 for the 2024-2025 season, Monday August 12.
A few days before the resumption of the National 2 championships, this weekend, the Bordeaux club is preparing to discover a new championship for it. The Girondins de Bordeaux had only known the first two divisions since the post-war period. The club, six-time champion of France, now has two options: accept this decision or request conciliation before the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF).
