The former tenant of the Quai d’Orsay denounced, on Saturday, the “brutality”, the “cynicism” and “a form of incompetence” of Scott Morrison.

Without resentment. The outgoing Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian, rejoiced, Saturday, May 21, the defeat of the Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, ousted from power by the Labor Party. This result “suits me very well”he dropped, with mischief, during the transfer of power with his successor, Catherine Colonna, arousing the laughter of the assistance gathered at the Quai d’Orsay.

“The actions taken with regard to France (…) were notoriously brutal, cynical and, I would still be tempted to say, a form of notorious incompetence, and that makes me happy to tell you tonight”he blurted out. “I hope we can renew a frank and constructive dialogue with Australia in the future.”

In 2021, Scott Morrison had angered Paris by suddenly scuttling a contract for the delivery of French submarines worth 56 billion euros, preferring to obtain supplies from Washington and London.
