Bordeaux, Rodez but also Metz and Annecy will have to wait another week. The Disciplinary Committee of the Professional Football League (LFP) decided, Monday, June 5, to postpone its decision concerning the stoppage of the match between the Girondins and the Ruthénois last Friday during the last day of Ligue 2. The meeting had to be interrupted after a Bordeaux spectator attacked Lucas Buades who had just opened the scoring for Rodez. The match could not come to an end, promotion to Ligue 1, as well as relegations to National are also suspended for the moment for the Messins and the Annecy residents.
Meeting on Monday, the LFP Disciplinary Committee decided to “put the file under investigation” specifies the instance in a press release. This decision thus temporarily prevents the match from being replayed, as Bordeaux and Annecy were calling for. “The decision will be made at the end of the session on Monday June 12, 2023, at 1 p.m., during which the instructor will submit his report”, adds the LFP.
This match is of capital importance for the end of the Ligue 2 season. Bordeaux could still ensure its promotion to Ligue 1 by winning second place, if the club manages to win by a wide margin against Rodez and overtake Metz, current second. At the bottom of the standings, Rodez could snatch his maintenance in the event of victory at Matmut Atlantique, and overtake Annecy, currently 16th and first non-relegated, two points ahead of RAF.
