Review of the Purchasing Power Bill started on Monday, July 18. The presidential party is seeking a majority and hopes to count on the support of several opposition members to enact the law.

The discussions promise to be heated in the National Assembly in the coming days. MEPs debate the purchasing power bill. The government would like to launch a “fuel bonus”, with a check that can range from 100 to 300 euros and which would be given to the most modest users using their car to go to work. Raising the index point for civil servants to 3.5% is also under consideration. However, some regret seeing an increase lower than the rate of inflation.

In addition to the measures on the price of gasoline and on wages, a whole new bonus could see the light of day. This measure is not unanimous for business leaders, who sometimes prefer to find an alternative. “It was easier for us, 25 of us, to do a gradual increase than to have to take out 75,000 euros in a one-shot (a blow)says Stéphane Arnault, business manager.
