the Deauville American Film Festival unveils the program for its 48th edition

The cinema will soon return to Deauville on the occasion of the famous festival which will be held from September 2 to 11. The programming that has just been unveiled honors new talent with eight films by first-time directors in competition and highly anticipated screenings like the drama “Blonde” about the life of Marylin Monroe.

The programming of the American Film Festival was unveiled on Thursday August 18. Scheduled for September 2 to 11, the 48th edition will see thirteen films compete, including eight first feature films by new directors. The film Call Jane by Phyllis Nagy (screenwriter of carol) will kick off the festivities, starring actresses Elizabeth Banks and Sigourney Weaver. The feature film on clandestine abortion networks in the 1960s will be screened on the occasion of the opening night.

Several highlights are expected throughout the festival. The projection of Blonde hair by director Andrew Dominik (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford) on the life and tragic end of Marilyn Monroe, played by Ana by Armas. The young actress will receive the New Hollywood Prize on this occasion, to salute her “passion” and his “commitment” for the 7th art.

In competition against Netflix production, the first film by the director duo Gina Gammell and Riley Keough, granddaughter of Elvis Presley, will present War Pony. This odyssey of two boys living in an Amerindian reserve won the Camera d’or (best first film) at the last Cannes Film Festival. Another feature film already spotted on the Croisette, The Silent Twins of the Polish Agnieszka Smoczynska. The public will discover the story, inspired by real events, of two twins who refuse to communicate with the rest of the world. We will also have to count on James Gray and his Armageddon Time which had divided critics in May 2022.

The actor Jesse Eisenberg of The Social Network (2010)will present his first film entitled When You Finish Saving The World, starring Julianne Moore and the series actor Stranger Things, Finn Wolfhard. L’actress Olivia Wilde closed the festival with Don’t Worry Darling, his second feature film after Booksmartan expected screening for the two main actors: Florence Pugh, spotted in Midsommar and the star of pop Harry Styles. Among the documentaries presented, the public will discover Hallelujah: the words of Leonard Cohenon the journey of the Canadian composer.

Finally, the festival will award a Deauville Talent Awards to the actress Thandiwe Newton seen in The colors of fate and actress Lucy Boyntonrevealed in Deauville in Sing Street will receive the New Hollywood Award.
