A fire broke out in a building in Valencia (Spain) on Thursday February 22. In amateur images, firefighters are watering to try to stem the flames, so that they do not reach a balcony on which there are still two residents. The neighborhood follows the operation with anxiety. The fire spread at an impressive speed, as videos show. At 5:37 p.m., only one apartment seemed affected. In three minutes, the flames had spread to adjacent floors. The fire spread through the facade. By 6:17 p.m., almost the entire 14-story building was engulfed in flames.
Ten bodies found
The 137 apartments of the residence were devoured by fire. Despite the exhaustion and several injuries among the firefighters, the battle against the fire lasted all night. On Friday morning, all that remained of the 14-story residence built in 2008 was a smoking, burning carcass. Inside, ten bodies were found. The origin of the fire is not yet known, but the facade cladding is believed to be responsible for the flash spread. Three days of mourning were declared in Valencia.
