France has officially become the first country in the world to include abortion in its Constitution: the Republican seal was affixed to the text of the law during a ceremony in front of the Ministry of Justice. A look back at this historic day.

With this interpretation, the artist celebrated the inclusion in the Constitution of the freedom to resort to voluntary interruption of pregnancy (IVG). A few minutes earlier, Éric Dupond-Moretti, Minister of Justice, officially sealed the text voted on Monday in our fundamental law. At his side, there was Emmanuel Macron, but also the left-wing parliamentarians at the origin of the text, as well as early feminist activists.
Emmanuel Macron wants to go further
It was an emotional moment for the thousand people gathered on Place Vendôme. But if the freedom to resort to abortion is now engraved in our law, Emmanuel Macron wants to go further. “I would like this guaranteed freedom to resort to pregnancy termination to be included in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.“, declared the Head of State. By consecrating on Friday the freedom of women to dispose of their bodies, France wants to be an example for the whole world.
